The holiday season brings a
sense of anticipation as we
prepare to reunite with
family and friends and draw
the year 2007 to a close.
During the years of writing
my doctoral dissertation for
my Ph.D. I used to dread the
question that would
inevitably arise at holiday
get togethers with friends
and family. "Are you
finished your Ph.D. yet?"
Partly as a coping strategy
and as a way to mark the
smaller steps towards
achieving a Ph.D. I
developed a tradition of
ending my year by marking my
accomplishments. This is a
strategy I continue to use
with my
coaching clients and I
have chosen to share with
you.
There are a couple of
different ways you can
document your
accomplishments. Firstly,
you can go month by month
and recall what you achieved
every thirty days over 2007.
On the other hand, perhaps
it would help to have some
categories under which to
list your accomplishment.
Consider your professional
and financial successes. How
about your relationships
with friends, family, and
loved ones? What physical
goals have you achieved? How
have you moved along your
spiritual path? What did you
accomplish this year in
terms of learning and
personal growth? Have you
made any changes to your
home and work environment of
which you are proud? And
last, but not least, what
did you do this year for fun
and play?
In the spirit of sharing,
I will let you in on some of
the accomplishments I am
most proud of for 2007.
Well, I started
coaching and I have
coached some extraordinary
people to some pretty
amazing accomplishments
themselves! (You can check
them out
here!) I fulfilled an
amazing dream of holding a
yoga retreat, and then
just for good measure, I
held a second one! I
recorded 8
yoga and pilates DVDs,
and the feedback from them
has been extraordinary!
Which reminds me, since two
of them were recorded in
Cancun, Mexico, I was able
to take my family to Mexico
this year for some fun in
the sun! I held my first
yoga fundraising event,
"Yoga as Peace and Action,"
and with your help we raised
enough money to plant four
forests through a non-
profit organization called
Trees for the Future. On
a more personal note, I
honed my skills as the
mother of my beautiful
daughter Trinity and I used
my personal growth and
spiritual learning to better
cope with stress and
anxiety.
But, enough about me,
what about you? What are
your proudest moments of
2007? I would be most
delighted if you hit reply
on your e-mail and shared
your accomplishments of 2007
with me, right now!
Have a wonderful holiday
season, however you
celebrate. I am looking
forward to sharing an
exciting 2008 with all of
you.
Namaste, Melissa
