Cleansing and Detoxing

Today’s question comes from Lauren from Facebook:

Cleansing-and-DetoxingHello! First I just want to say thank you so much. These classes have really helped me build my confidence in my own strength. The fact that I can practice at the moment when I don’t have the funds to go to a class is so precious to me. It has been so freeing in my mind and body that I am finally realizing I need to quit smoking. I have been a smoker for 11 years and the hypocrisy of trying to eat better and practice yoga then go and smoke is ridiculous. My eating habits have not been very healthy. Since I have cut down on the sugar, my arthritis has been so much better. I really want to push it further and get rid of the monkey on my back. I did quit for 9 months and the physical toll of the detox was horrible, I felt like I was coming off of a much harder drug. My question is there specific sequence or videos that you have made that may be helpful with detoxing? I have tried to search all your many videos, but maybe I missed it. I will definitely be following the relaxation based videos. Thank you again what you have given me, the courage to change my life and health!

Namaste, Lauren

Dear Lauren

Congratulations on your motivation to quit smoking and to live in integrity with your yoga lifestyle! 🙂 We have a couple of things that could help you. We have a yoga detox video and then on our membership site we have a whole Spring Cleanse Yoga Series. This five-class series combines the best of kundalini, meditation, and yin yoga. The classes cleanse through the layers of your koshas starting with the densest layer of your physical body and working out through your energetic body, emotional body, mental body and spirit body.

Kundalinin Kriya for the Naval Center and Elimination

75 mins. In our modern lifestyle we seldom walk or exercise our bodies enough to promote good elimination through the bowels. It is the build of of waste that prevents good absorption of nutrients and that provides a breeding ground for bacteria and illness. If the elimination is blocked in the main channels, your body will try to expel the toxins via the skin in pimples, rashes, boils, etc. This kirya works out the entire elimination system. Then the sexual energy and breath energy are stimulated and circulated. The final exercises raise the energy to the higher centers. by Yogi Bhajan 7/2/69

Kriya for Strengthening the Aura

15mins. Your aura is the electronic energy field that surrounds you. When your aura is weak you feel easily swayed by others, overwhelmed by outside influences, and easily emotional. A strong aura gives you the power of protection (from outside influences and disease), and projection (clarity of intention). You feel stable and secure in your self. This allows you to shine and be open hearted. This is a simple yet powerful kriya for keeping disease away, eliminating digestive problems, and developing a strong aura. (Kirya from Shakta Kaur Khalsa’s book Kundalini Yoga teaching from Yogi Bhajan)

Meditation to Clear Your Thoughts

19mins. This meditation uses mantra and mudra to clear your thoughts.

Liver Cleanse Yin Class

31 mins. The best time of year to do a liver cleanse is spring according to traditional Chinese medicine. This class stimulates the liver meridian in a gentle way with long holds in order to support the detoxification process of your liver during the spring.

Kriya – Let Your Purity Guide You

23 mins. Is a meditation, mudra and breathing exercise for you to focus on the mental life inside of you becoming clear, calm, and peaceful. The idea is that your mental well being is 70 % of the equation while the physical only makes up 30%. There are seven steps to happiness according to Yogi Bhajan, first there must be commitment, then character, dignity, dignity, grace, power to sacrifice, and then happiness. This kriya is designed to take your to that place of purity.

We then organized a whole Spring Clean retreat over a weekend that you can do any time. It has classes, meal plans, intention setting, meditations, sleep yoga, and lots of ideas for how to cleans inside and out! It was pretty awesome.

On top of this I did a blog post just the other day with a meditation to help you quit smoking or break other addictions:

I hope that might help!

Namaste, Melissa
