Namaste Yoga 38: Special Series on the Yamas and Niyamas: Sauca with Dr. Melissa West

by Melissa West on June 14, 2010

This week marks the first week we enter into the niyamas which are in a sense, the internal yamas. The whereas the yamas are about our relationship to the the world, niyamas outline a way of taking care of ourselves on a personal level. The niyamas begin with sauca, pronounced sh-ouch-a, and means cleanliness. In this episode of namaste yoga we will focus on cleaning the internal body with asana. We will use pranayama including extended exhalation and kapalabhati breath to cleanse the body. We will also focus on clearing our emotions and thoughts in order to be able to observe the pure light of our spirit.
