Goji-Berries-Benefits: Every time I hear the word goji berry I can’t help but think of the Inappropriate Yoga Guy. In fact, stereotypically enough it was at a yoga workshop that I learned about goji berries as a source of protein. Goji berries are loaded with essential amino acids, are rich in vitamin A and vitamin C. They also contain zinc, iron, phosphorus, riboflavin (B2), vitamin E as well as carotenoids including beta-carotene.

Traditionally the goji berry was grown in the himalayan mountains of Tibet and Mongolia and was used for thousands of years medicinally in traditional chinese medicine. They are known for strength and longevity and act on the liver and kidney meridians to help with lower back pain, dizziness and eyesight according to traditional chinese medicine.

There may be some possible herb-drug interactions with goji berries. If you take warfarin (a blood thinner), you may want to avoid goji berries. Goji berries may also interact with diabetes and blood pressure drugs.

Also my naturopathic doctor told me that goji berries are a nightshade and so if you are sensitive to night shades or have any inflammatory diseases such as arthritis where you are avoiding nightshades such as potatoes, tomatoes and eggplant to reduce inflammation goji berries might not be a good idea for you either.
