foot massage for insomnia

According to Ayurvedic medicine, our feet contain reflexology points that map out all the organs and parts of our bodies. For thousands of years, Ayurvedic medicine has recommended foot massage as part of your nightly routine before retiring to bed at night. Why would that be? Because your entire body is mapped onto your feet, when you massage your feet, you are receiving a full body treatment.

Massaging your feet at night is incredibly calming and stress reducing, especially for vata dosha, who are prone to anxiety and light sleep.

Today I am going to show you how to massage your feet before bed using Scentuals Yoga Serenity 100% Natural Massage Oil

Warm the massage oil in your hand.

  1. Cover your whole foot with the massage oil from your ankle to the tips of your toes.
  2. Use circular motions to massage the sole of your foot
  3. Take long strokes with an open palm from your heel to your toes on the sole of your foot
  4. Use long strokes on the top of your foot
  5. Massage each toe individually

There is an acupressure point that you can focus on in particular that is known to help relieve insomnia. It is located in the center of your heel. If you draw a line from both your ankle bones to the sole of your foot, the shimien point is where these two lines overlap in the middle of your sole. Apply a small amount of pressure on this tender point to help with sleep.
