Yoga to the Rescue for the Cold and Flu Season

I don’t know about you but every year with back to school comes the spread of germs and a the spread of the common cold. Today I wanted to share with you some yoga tips for the cold and flu season as well as why yoga helps to boost your immune system through the cold and flu season.

Signs and symptoms of the common cold may include the following:

  • A nose that is either runny and/or stuffy
  • Throat pain
  • Coughing
  • Mild body aches, including a headache
  • Sneezing
  • Eyes that water
  • Tiredness
  • Slight fever

Yoga helps to strengthen the immune system in a number of ways. Firstly it lowers the stress hormone cortisol, lower levels of stress equals a stronger immune system. Yoga stimulate the organs and glands of the immune system including the thymus, spleen, lymphatic system and digestive system.

My yoga video – Yoga for Immunity Boost goes into great detail on this.

A Neti Pot can be very useful when you feel like you are getting a cold and when you are fighting a cold and I would refer you to my video on using a neti pot.

Chanting a common way to begin and end a yoga session opens up the sinus passages and helps to calm the body and mind.

Finally lots of rest when you are fighting a cold is probably the best thing and so I would recommend restorative classes. We have a free restorative class on our regular channels.
As well there is a restorative class called “Waning to the Dark Moon” on our membership site.
