I’m in a yoga rut, how can I get out?

“I am stuck in a rut and not able to get back to my usual yoga sessions. How to break out of it?”

Yoga-in-a-rutToday’s question comes from Suba on Facebook

That’s a great question Suba, thank you for asking it. We all fall off the yoga mat from time to time, the question is, how to get back on. On the membership site, we created the weekly challenges to keep people motivated about their practices. The weekly challenges were born out of one of our members, Donna, who had lost her yoga mojo. In response, we decided that each week we would create an inspirational practice including a reflection, some journaling and suggested practices for the week. Since I started that in May of 2012 we have been going every week. More recently Kerry Wanamaker, one of our Open Hearted Graduates has taken over the weekly challenges and she includes a short video with a mudra and some reflective questions for the week. The members love it and there is a lively discussion going on about their practices each week. Recent topics have included: A series on the elements, Flip flop summer, Yes and (OM and the cosmc yes), Can you feel the Heat? It’s 108 degrees in here (about the significance of the #108), Are we there yet?, and Home is where the heart is.

If you are not a member I encourage you to go on my Youtube page and check out the playlists there.  Find something that catches your eye. What seems intriguing? What series haven’t you tried yet? Encourage yourself to complete a whole series over however many days it will take to complete the series. There are lots of series to choose from. How about Chakras and their Archetypes, Yoga Jargon, Yoga Stories, Lakshmi, Vishnu, Yoga for Emotions, The Five Vayus, Keepin’ it Real Yoga Style, Ganesh Stories, Shiva, or maybe even go back to the beginning and try a beginner’s series. Find a yoga buddy and stay accountable with them.

Good luck and have fun.

Namaste, Melissa
