Yoga Help

Stress-Relief-through-YogaHi, I have started yoga from your videos namaste yoga 101. Next day I have been feeling sores muscles in back and legs. So shall I rest or continue practising. Another situation is I need your guidance in choosing proper path currently I have been facing problems like inadequate sleep, stress anxiety, feeling so much low on energy and negative all the time. Please guide me through what yoga and lifestyle I can eliminate them. It means a lot to me.

Thanks

Thank you for a great question. We did a blog post not too long ago about feeling the difference between pain and muscle soreness. Here is the link to that blog post:
It will help you determine whether you need to rest or whether you can keep practicing.

As far as inadequate sleep, stress and anxiety, one of the best breath practices that I can recommend for that is nadi shodhana or alternate nostril breathing. This breath will help to quiet and center your mind. It is fabulous for releasing accumulated stress. It harmonizes the left and right hemispheres of your brain. It helps to purify and balance the subtle energy channels of your body so that you will have a smooth flow of life force energy through your body and therefore it will help with your energy as well.

I will also recommend several classes that I think will help with sleep, stress, anxiety and low energy.

For sleep, we have an entire series on our membership site for insomnia.

The series includes: Yoga, breath practice, guidelines for eating, cooking classes, and tips for getting the best night sleep possible – it is all in here! There are two one hour yoga classes one for the morning designed to discharge anxious energy and one for the evening designed to wind you down. The pranayama (breath) practices will help you sleep before you go to bed and even if you are lying awake at night. There are eating guidelines and cooking classes for every meal of the day. There is even a lecture going over insomnia and offering tips and suggestions on how to get the best night of sleep possible

For stress and anxiety I would recommend Namaste Yoga 192 from the Benefits of Yoga Series where we discussed one of the Benefits of Yoga was Relaxation and Stress Relief

For anxiety, I have a Yoga for Anxiety Class on the Membership Site.

And for general energy, I love the spinal energy series.

I included it in episode 201 of Namaste Yoga.
Also Episode 196
and episode 26

Another class from the Benefits of Yoga Series also focuses on Energy and includes breath of joy, which is also quite uplifting 🙂

I hope this helps. I would love to know, what are your favourite yoga postures and breath practices for sleeplessness, stress, anxiety and uplifting your energy?

Leave your suggestions in the comments below. 🙂

Namaste, Melissa
